5th Annual Business Administration Conference: Current Issues in Business Management

The "5th Annual Business Administration Conference: Current Issues in Business Management" was held on October 24-25, 2024, at the Turkish-German University campus. It was organized by Turkish-German University's Department of Business Administration, Business Administration Master’s Program and Doctoral Program, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts, and sponsored by Siemens Türkiye and DAAD.
The opening session began with welcome speeches from Prof. Dr. Müge Klein, Head of the Department of Business Administration at Turkish-German University; Prof. Dr. Rıza Öztürk, Dean of the Faculty of Business at Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts; Prof. Dr. Elif Nuroğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences at Turkish-German University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zaur Gasimov, Faculty Coordinator at Turkish-German University; and Prof. Dr. Ferit Küçükay, General Coordinator of Turkish-German University. The session concluded with keynote speeches by Hüseyin Gelis, Chairman of the Board and CEO of Siemens Türkiye, and Celal Cundoğlu, Consultant at Objects Consulting.
The first session, chaired by Moritz Martin Botts, a faculty member at the Turkish-German University’s Department of Business Administration, began with a presentation by Ahu Tuğba Karabulut from Istanbul Kent University, titled “Global Virtual Teams: A Literature Review.” This was followed by presentations from Dorothee Wilm and Alexander Förster from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts, who discussed “Lessons Learned? The Challenges of Generative AI and LLM Implementation Projects within the Corporate Office World.” The session concluded with a presentation by Eliza Starke, Angelina Egbers, Lia Bo Josephs, Alina Neumann, Judith Quiring, Jan Schilling, and Manuel Stegemann from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts, titled “Battling the Pink Tax: How Awareness Campaigns Shape Fairness and Brand Perception.”
In the second session, moderated by Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu from the Turkish-German University, Andreas Uphaus and Tim Kampe from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts presented “Artificial Intelligence in Finance and Accounting of Small and Medium-Size Companies - Use Cases, Opportunities and Risks.” Orçun Kaya and Julia Meyer from ZHAW School of Management and Law presented their work on “Determinants of Late Payment Days.” Mehtap Öner from Marmara University and Abdulrahman Al Abdeh from TouristPay concluded the session with their presentation titled “The Influence of Financing Decisions on Financial Performance and Value of Manufacturing Companies: Evidence from Turkey.”
The third session, moderated by Dilek Zamantılı Nayır from the Turkish-German University, opened with a presentation by Çiydem Çatak and Sena Yılmaz Arslan from the Turkish-German University, and Stephan Schöning from SRH University of Applied Sciences in Heidelberg, titled “Board Diversity and Corporate Success: Evidence from Turkey and Germany.” Margareta Teodorescu from Koblenz University of Applied Sciences and Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu from the Turkish-German University presented “Unraveling Regenerative Finance: Economic Insights into Blockchain’s Disruptive Potential.” The session concluded with Mehmet Hakan Özdemir, Tolga Tuzcuoğlu, and Erencan Yavrucu from the Turkish-German University presenting on “Integrating Generative Artificial Intelligence in Finance: Enhancing Financial Reporting and Quantitative Decision-Making.”
The conference's second-day session was moderated by Vivian Carstensen from Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Arts. The first presentation was by Hüseyin Hayri Nuroğlu from the Turkish-German University on “Investment Franchising: Is It a Viable Solution for Small Investors Facing Governance Problems in Emerging Markets?” Moritz Martin Botts and Ömer Hurmacı from the Turkish-German University presented their study “Marketing Public Goods to Citizens: A Psychological Ownership Perspective on Natural Parks.” The conference's final presentation was delivered by Ferhat Sayın, Hilmi Berkay Abbasoğlu from the Turkish-German University, and Serdar Salih Durmuşoğlu from Boğaziçi University on “The Impact of FoMo-Laden Limited Time Offers on Customer Behavior: The Moderating Role of Curved vs. Sharp Angled Presentation.”
The conference concluded with a closing speech by Prof. Dr. Ela Sibel Bayrak Meydanoğlu, Head of the Business Administration Master’s and Doctoral Programs at the Turkish-German University.
